Cockatiels and baths
Bathing a cockatiel is esential, because it stops the bird from getting dry skin, and helps the keratin coating on new feathers soften, so your bird can molt faster. Regular bathing keeps your birds feathers clean and keeps the amount of dust low.
spray bottle
There are lots of different ways to bath a cockatiel, but the simplest way is with a spraybottle. If your bird doesnt like bathing, then this is probably the best way. This is also the easiest way to teach your cockatiel that water wont hurt him. When you are giving a cockatiel a bath for the first time, spray yourself a couple of times to show him its safe. For first baths, i would also recomend spraying your bird while he is inside the cage. After the bath, gently dry your cockatiel with a towel, then let him preen.
dish bath
Fill a small dish with one inch of semi warm water, and gently put your cockatiel in it. dont force your cockatiel to bath though, all birds are different, and some don't like the water. After the bath dry your cockatiel with a soft towel then let him preen.
showering with your cockatiel
showering with your cockatiel can be a great bonding experience, and the steam is GREAT for their little noses. You can purchase shower perches from most petstores, but only get the ones with three suction cups, two suction cups tend to fall of. If you cant find shower perches, then a clean soap holder should do. If your cockatiel is going to get wet, then make sure the water isnt to hot, about lukewarm.
